5 Affiliate Marketing Tips for Beginners 2025

Today, I will be sharing my top 5 pieces of advice in affiliate marketing.

You will find these pieces of advice extremely helpful because I am sharing my experience, and what I have learned over the years of doing affiliate marketing.

Some of the 5 tips are personal things, that I would recommend you to do, others are things that I’ve found out that have worked extremely well.

Remember these aren’t random tips, you find on the common lists online of generic best practices for affiliate marketing. So if you find this article helpful or have any questions for me, do tell me in the comment section.

Let’s get into 5 advice for affiliate marketing beginners.

1. Asking for discount codes on affiliate products

The first piece of advice for beginners in affiliate marketing is something that not many people know that you can even do, and that is to ask for discount codes.

This is how this works — when you apply for an affiliate partnership with individual companies like Shopify, Beehiiv, or Bluehost instead of an Amazon affiliate or Clickbank.

You can actually email them and talk to the company affiliate manager and ask them for a discount code.

Which you can offer to the people who are reading or watching your affiliate content.

A lot of the time, individual companies are even willing to create a custom discount code just for you, and then that’s something that you can offer to your audience who are reading your content.

Now, most of the time — it’s just a straight discount code that they give you totally for free (after signing up). Other times, they will give you the option to take a specific percentage out of your own commission to create that discount code so that it’s not costing the company anything extra.

But the bonus is, that you as an affiliate can offer something special to your audience.

This makes you more credible in their eyes and your affiliate content way more valuable for people to read, and gives people more of an incentive to use your affiliate link.

2. Make sure to review affiliate products in your niche

Never promote a product that you don’t believe in.

The above line is the golden rule in affiliate marketing. When you are creating your blog articles or video content for affiliate marketing, try to take out all of the BS!

Take out all of the things that people really don’t need, all of the filler information, and think about if you were someone who was reading that content, what would you want to know?

Only by keeping things lean like this, you will deliver valuable content.

So, if you were looking for the easiest type of content (with minimum competition) to create to get affiliate commissions, that would be by doing product reviews in your niche.

Because that type of content works extremely well for affiliate marketing.

3. Negotiate your commission rates

The 3rd piece of advice is something that I don’t think many new affiliate marketers know, and that is that you can negotiate your commission rate.

This is particularly true when you partner with individual companies (as mentioned above) and essentially as a rule of thumb, generally speaking, the more sales that you get for that company, the higher your commission rate should be.

No rocket science there.

Many people don’t know this thing because a lot of companies don’t really want to advertise this thing, because they’d rather pay you just the base commission no matter how many sales you bring them.

However, as you start to generate more sales for an individual company, don’t be afraid to email your affiliate manager and just ask if there’s room to increase your affiliate commission.

4. Pick the right content platform

The 4th piece of advice, which is overlooked but is extremely important, is when you’re getting started in affiliate marketing, pick the right content platform.

You can do affiliate marketing in several different ways (no end to it). There are tons of different platforms on which you can post your content.

The 2 successful ways would be creating articles and posting them on your own blog website or newsletter, or creating affiliate marketing videos and posting them on YouTube or TikTok.

You can make money in both of these ways, the important thing is which way suits you better and where you can drive more traffic.

For some, it’s easy to start a faceless YouTube channel rather than a blog and vice versa.

5. Remember to have a powerful CTA

The last piece of advice if you’re just starting in affiliate marketing is to remember to include a CTA. Here CTA stands for ‘call to action’.

Remember every piece of affiliate content either in any form (written or video) that you make, you wanna make sure that you’re not forgetting to put in CTA, which is the next step for your reader or viewer.

CTA can be a link to a product with your affiliate link, or the next piece of content that they should read or watch that’s going to help them and you even more.

Just make sure that you are laying things out for your audience.
