Build for Everyone & You Build for No One

Read this, if you want to own your space

Hey — It’s Ali.

This happens everywhere.

Build for everyone and you build for no one. Build for one person and you build for everyone.

I learned this when I was self-studying marketing and SEO techniques. I realize that what we see today, is big blogs or platforms or products that are well-known today. They were initially just simple plain ideas that targeted one person.

But with time once they build their credibility and loyal audience. They broadened their horizon to other niches.

  1. Airbnb → started as “AirBed & Breakfast”, for conference attendees who couldn’t find hotel rooms. Now famous globally for lodging, including vacation rentals, apartments, and even experiences.

  2. Netflix → started as a “DVD rental service”. Now it’s expanded to such length that they produce their own original content.

  3. Slack → started as an “internal communication tool for the developers of an online game called Glitch”. Today it’s a messaging platform that serves millions of businesses globally and was acquired by Salesforce for $27.7 billion.

  4. Etsy → started as a “small marketplace for handmade and vintage items”. Today, Etsy is a major e-commerce platform with millions of users and a wide range of products.
